Shapes and Stars – A Poem

Shapes and stars - artwork

Shapes and stars
Are on my mind
Reminding me of all the things
That once were mine.

Shapes and stars
Summer holidays
Reminding me of how we used to
Laugh and play

Those days of old
Have long since gone
The time has come for both of us
To now move on.

I now look back
On what used to be
How the time has come and gone
For you and me

The love we shared
Was so long ago
The time has passed
And we’ve now grown old

We can’t go back
To the way things used to be
We’ve got nothing left
But our cherished memories

Shapes and stars
Those carefree days
I’ll keep those memories
In my heart always

Maybe someday
We’ll meet again
And maybe we’ll rediscover
The love we once shared

I can only hope
That dreams still come true
I’ll place my faith in heaven above
That one day I will find you.

I used to buy Kellog’s Rice Krispies Multi-Grain Shapes for my niece when she was 5 years old. She used to call the cereal ‘shapes and stars.’

This box of cereal made me feel nostalgic and I started thinking about my boyfriend and how much fun we used to have together.

We used to spend our summer holidays in Dominica playing on the beach, swimming in the Emerald Pool, and taking a walk through the Botanical Gardens. We have both grown up and moved on since then.

Now he lives in Guadeloupe and I live in England. But we try to meet each other every year in Dominica, where we both grew up. We are engaged, and I hope that one day we will finally be together to make new memories.
