Christmas would not be the same without Christmas songs. From the start of December, I could hear festive tunes on the radio and in the stores. Of all the Christmas songs I’ve heard, I have my top five favorite musical melodies that always get my feet tapping and my head bopping every time they’re played on the radio.
1. Last Christmas – Wham!
I could never get tired of listening to this song. ‘Last Christmas’, sung by George Michael and Wham! is about a couple who fell in love during the Christmas holiday but their relationship failed and then they meet each other again the following year at Christmas time. Although the song is about love and betrayal, its catchy tune always makes me want to dance and sing whenever I hear it.
2. Mary did You Know – Pentatonix
This song always touches my heart every time I hear it. Although it was originally sung by Michael English, different versions of this lovely melody has been recorded by hundreds of artists over the years, but my favorite version of this beautiful song was performed by the Christian group Pentatonix. This is a Christmas song which is about Mary the mother of Jesus whose birth we celebrate on Christmas Day.
3. Power of Love – Frankie Goes to Hollywood
This is another song that I love to play during the Christmas season. Although it does not mention Christmas in its lyrics, ‘The Power of Love’ is considered to be a Christmas song. I have watched the video on YouTube and it features the Nativity scene when the three wise men visited Jesus when he was born and presented the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
4. Oh Holy Night – Carrie Underwood
‘Oh Holy Night’ is a classic Christmas hymn which is about the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There have been hundreds of different versions of this song recorded over the years, but my favorite version was performed by Carrie Underwood. This is another song that I could never forget to add to my playlist.
5. All I Want for Christmas – Mariah Carey
‘All I Want for Christmas’ is a song that I most definitely have to have on my playlist. This catchy tune is fun and playful and it’s a song that I love to dance to at a Christmas party. ‘All I Want for Christmas’ is an upbeat love song about a girl who wants nothing else for Christmas except to be with her boyfriend. This popular love song is one that I will never grow tired of listening to during the Christmas holiday.
