Let’s Do Better in 2025

Happy New Year 2025

We all do the same thing every year. We look back at the current year and say what was good or bad about it and how difficult it was to stick to our goals. Then we hope and pray that the following year will bring changes that will make our lives better. But instead of wishing for positive things to happen in the New Year, we must be proactive and start making changes to improve every area of our lives in 2025.

Let’s do better in our spiritual life.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen” (2 Peter 3:18, ASV).

When I talk about doing better in our spiritual life, I am talking about our lives as Christians. The Bible teaches us in 2 Peter 3:18 above, that spiritual growth is an ongoing process that involves deepening our understanding of God’s grace, mercy, and unconditional love and developing a closer relationship with Jesus Christ our savior.

So how can we do better in our spiritual life in 2025? If you are a Christian, you can develop your spiritual life by spending time in prayer, reading the Bible daily, attending church regularly, and joining a Christian community so that you can connect with other Christians.

If you have been thinking more about developing your spiritual life and want to become a Christian, then must believe that God loves you and He sent His only son Jesus Christ to die for your sins. Ask God to forgive you for your sins (your wrongdoings) and ask Jesus to come into your heart and be your savior. Develop a relationship with God by praying, worshiping, reading the Bible, and living a life according to Christ’s teachings. It will also help if you find a Bible-based church to connect with other Christians who can help you to grow in your spiritual life.

Let’s do better in our family life.

Whether you are married, live with your parents, have children, or live with your siblings, you can always find ways to improve your relationship with your family members. Here are some things you can do to make your family life better:

Have open communication with your family members. Listen attentively to one another, have regular family meetings to share your needs and concerns, and create an environment in which your family feels safe to express their feelings to each other clearly and respectfully.

Spend quality time with each other. You can have family meals together, play games, go out together, and plan special family events and celebrations.

This may be difficult to do, but you need to speak up as soon as problems arise so that you and your family can work together to come up with a solution.

You should also share the responsibility of taking care of household chores. Discuss and delegate tasks fairly based on each individual’s ability.

Let your family know how much you appreciate them. Celebrate individual achievements, compliment each other, and show them gratitude for their contributions.

Let’s do better with our personal development.

One way to improve your personal development is by cultivating a growth mindset. Having a growth mindset means believing that you can improve your skills and abilities through hard work and dedication. Having this mindset can help you develop your love of learning and your resilience.

You can create a personal development plan that will help you to focus on your objectives and what you plan to achieve.

You should use the SMART goals tool to set goals that are effective and productive. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. You should clearly state what will be done to reach your goal, how you will track your progress, ensure that you can achieve your goal and that it aligns with your objectives, and you need to set a deadline to complete your goal.

Find effective ways to manage stress to protect your mental and emotional well-being. Look for exercises and relaxation techniques you can use to reduce your stress.

Improve your communication skills. Practice active listening and expressing your feelings clearly.

There may be circumstances beyond our control that may occur which can hinder our progress in reaching our goals. This may be sickness, job loss, or a death in the family. This is when you will need to build resilience so that you will be able to bounce back after a setback.

Another way to improve your personal development is by building your confidence. Evaluate yourself positively. Acknowledge your strengths, identify your weaknesses, and look for ways to work on your weaknesses. Practicing certain tasks that you are weak in can help to build your confidence.

Let’s do better in our careers.

Whether you are established in your career or pursuing a new one, there are usually opportunities to develop your skills and abilities to improve in your career. For example, your job may offer training sessions and classes to learn new skills and technologies. There are various training courses that you can do to help you develop in your career. You can do an apprenticeship, on-the-job training, job shadowing, mentoring, attend a skills bootcamp, or you can take a leadership and management training course.

Taking on a new challenge, applying for a higher-paying job, or taking on a new responsibility can be scary, but don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Make a career plan and set short-term goals to help you stay organized and focused on developing your career.

Let’s do better in our relationships.

Being in a relationship can be difficult and you must work hard to keep it positive, healthy, and strong. One of the ways you can improve your relationship is by working on your communication skills. Show love and appreciation for your partner, don’t be afraid to ask for what you need, and show them how much you love them.

Work often gets in the way of relationships. But you need to make time to spend with your significant other. Plan dates, do fun things together, and be affectionate to each other. Ensure that you give your partner a hug and kiss when you say hello or goodbye.

Also, give each other space. There is no relationship rule that says that you both have to spend every available second together. There will be times when you need time apart. Go out with friends or spend time on your hobbies. You will find that when you and your partner come together, you have a lot more to talk about and you will appreciate each other more.

Practice patience and forgiveness. No relationship is perfect. Sometimes your partner may make mistakes that could harm your relationship. You both need to be open and honest with each other about your feelings. Have patience because it’s not everything that your partner will get right. Also be forgiving, for the problem that may have arisen in your relationship may have been unintentional. Again, this is where you need to listen attentively to your partner so that there is no misunderstanding and together you may be able to arrive at a solution that makes both of you happy.

Let’s do better with our finances.

With the cost-of-living crisis, managing our finances has become more difficult. But we can improve our financial situation with a bit of planning and budgeting. Make a list of all your expenses such as credit card debt, student loans, car financing, etc. Set a goal to reduce as much of your debt as possible.

For example, if you owe £8000 on your credit card, aim to reduce your debt by £2000 by the end of the year or to completely pay off your credit card debt in the next 4 years.

Budgeting can be boring, but it is very effective in helping you to manage your finances. You can use a spreadsheet, a budgeting app, or a free budget planner, or you can go old school like me and write down your income and expenses in a notebook. Budgeting helps you to see where your money is going, and it can help you cut down on your expenses.

If you are not earning enough money to cover your bills and debt, you may consider getting a higher-paying job, getting a second job, or starting a side business to increase your income.

Let’s do better with our health.

How many times have we vowed to eat healthier and exercise more? We pay for gym membership, but we hardly go to the gym. We may have set our goals too high or may not have been specific in how we want to improve our health.

It is not enough to say that we want to get healthier in the New Year. We need to be more specific. For example, one way you can get healthier is by adding fruit to your lunch, drinking up to eight glasses of water a day, or taking a 10-minute walk during your lunch break.

To become fitter, you could aim to attend the gym for an hour once a week, then increase it to two days a week and then three days a week. Taking small steps can lead to big changes in your health.

Let’s do better with our time.

Time is a precious resource that cannot be reproduced. As the saying goes: “You can make more money, but you cannot make more time.” Therefore, whatever time we have on this earth, we must make the most of it.

So how can we manage our time better in 2025? One way to improve our time management is to get organized, prioritize the most important things, and eliminate unnecessary tasks. Set clear, actionable, and realistic goals and avoid distractions so that you can stay focused.

Track how you spend your time each day. We tend to waste a lot of time scrolling through social media or sitting for hours watching television when we could be using the time to spend with our families and friends. Or we could use the time to do something more productive such as learning a new skill.

Our time is very precious; therefore, we need to learn to say no to the things that will take our time away from more important tasks. Only you know what you have time for, so if you know that hanging out with friends is going to take away from your study time, for example, don’t be afraid to say no. Your study time is more important to ensure that you pass your exams or get the job you want.

And finally, make time for God. Ensure that you set aside some quiet time to read your Bible and pray. Spending time with God can lead to spiritual growth, it can renew your strength, give you comfort and direction, and help you to understand God’s plans for your life.

As you set new goals and make New Year’s Resolutions for 2025, consider God’s plan for your life and how you can live a better life according to His will. We can rest in the knowledge of John 16:33, “These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (ASV). God promises us that He’s in control. He will strengthen our hearts and help us to be courageous to face whatever challenges come along in 2025. Even though we are unsure of what the future will bring, we can be confident that we can trust in God to guide us through this New Year and beyond.
