Why do we celebrate Easter? For some, this holiday is about eating brightly decorated chocolate eggs, having Easter egg hunts, and the Easter bunny. But for Christians, Easter is the most important holiday of the year which marks the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
While I was thinking about death and resurrection, I watched a YouTube video of a woman named Charlotte who was clinically dead for 11 minutes and then came back to life. She described her experience of leaving her physical body and being led to heaven by angels.
She described what she saw when she went to heaven. She saw beautiful flowers, trees, and grass. She heard beautiful music and she said that everything in heaven was worshipping God. She said that it was pure joy.
In heaven, she saw her deceased family members in their new spiritual bodies. She also saw behind them a bright light that she knew was her Heavenly Father. She also saw the child which she had lost when she was 5 months pregnant, which was truly amazing!
She was also shown hell. It smelled of rotting flesh and she heard screams of people being tortured.
God told her that this is where people will end up if they do not change their ways.
Charlotte’s spirit came back to her physical body. She made a full recovery and was able to go home. Since then she has shared her story with everyone she meets and helps bring people to Christ.
Charlotte’s story reminds me of Jesus Christ who also died and came back to life and why we celebrate Easter.
In Christianity, Easter is a holiday in which we remember the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He was arrested, crucified, and died on the cross, buried in a tomb, and rose from the grave 3 days later. Because of His death and resurrection, eternal life is given to all who believe in Jesus.
The resurrection of Jesus gives us hope that one day we will have eternal life and be with Jesus in heaven.
Because Charlotte was a Christian who believed in Jesus, she was given the opportunity to experience a glimpse of what eternal life would be like when she dies and goes to heaven. She was blessed with the knowledge of what heaven would be like and is now able to share her story with everyone she meets.
You don’t have to wait until Easter to believe in Jesus and make Him the Lord of your life. You can pray this simple prayer: “Lord Jesus, forgive me for I have sinned. Please come into my heart and be my Lord and Saviour.”
If you sincerely believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for your sins and was resurrected, then you can be sure that you were born again.
You can be confident that no matter what we may go through in this life, we can be sure that one day we will experience eternal life and joy in heaven with our Heavenly Father.
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also (John 14:1-3, KJV).
